History of the Class Pack Street Machine Club written by Norm Romack

In January of 1986, there was a lot of talk about starting a car club.  On a cold Sunday late in January, about a half dozen guys got together and seriously talked about starting a car club.  After a lot of discussion, it was decided to have a formal meeting in February to see if there was enough interest to start a club mainly in the Neoga area.  Ten people showed up and it was very evident from the excitement and enthusiasm of that meeting that this club was very much in demand.   We talked about a lot of different ideas on what kind of club we wanted.  In the end we opted for limiting membership to pre-1970 autos and trucks.  Since we were allowing vehicles newer than 1948 we decided we should be known as a Street machine Club.  Several club names were discussed, but nothing was approved.  Also at this meeting, officers for the calendar year 1986 were elected.  They were President; Norm Romack, Vice President; Jim Phillips, Sec-Treasurer; Mike Sloan.  The March meeting was scheduled for the third Sunday in March at Norm's garage (on what was later to be known as Tin Can Alley).  A couple days after our February meeting, the president of the Ramblin' Relics rod club called and asked if our new car club would be interested in sponsoring a
cruise night in Effingham. How cool was that!  Our car club that still didn't have a name was asked to take over a cruise that was already established with
a large following.  Little did we know that this was the beginning of a lot of great things to come.  At the march meeting there was a lot of excitement over the cruise nite that we had agreed to host.  After a lot of discussion about the Cruise Nite we finally got around to talking about a name for the club.  Several names were suggested, and finally it was decided that we would be known as THE CLASS PACK STREET MACHINE CLUB....
